Can you trade in a financed car?

Yes — we do it every day. We pay off your existing auto loan directly with your lender. If your trade-in value is higher than the payoff, the difference becomes your down payment on the next vehicle. If it's lower, the gap (negative equity) can usually be rolled into your new financing. Bring your most recent loan statement and we'll handle the rest.

Can I trade in a financed car for a cheaper one?

Yes. Trading down to a lower-priced vehicle is one of the best ways to cut your monthly payment. If your current car has equity, it goes straight onto the cheaper car as a down payment. If you have negative equity, we can still structure the deal — though the smaller new loan means less room to absorb the rollover, so we'll be transparent about whether it actually lowers your payment. Yes. We pay off your existing loan directly with your lender. If your trade-in value is higher than the payoff, the difference goes toward your new vehicle as a down payment. What happens if I owe more than my car is worth?

That's called negative equity, and it's very common. You have three options: pay the difference in cash at signing, roll the balance into your new auto loan, or keep your current car and pay it down further first. We'll show you all three side by side so you can pick what makes sense.

Do I need to bring my loan payoff amount?

Accepted Answer

It helps speed things up, but it's not required. Call your lender for a 10-day payoff quote, or we can request it for you with a quick authorization. Bring the title only if you already have it — most financed cars won't.

Will trading in hurt my credit?

Accepted Answer

The trade itself doesn't. Applying for new financing creates a soft or hard inquiry depending on the lender, which can ding your score by a few points temporarily. Paying off the old loan as part of the trade actually helps your credit profile over time.

Can I trade in a leased car before the lease ends?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can buy out your lease from the captive lender (Toyota Financial, Honda Finance, Ally, etc.) and apply any equity toward your next vehicle. With used-car values where they are, a lot of leases today carry real positive equity — money you'd otherwise hand back at lease-end for free.

How do I know if my lease has equity?

Compare your buyout amount (on your last statement or via your lender's app) to the current market value of the car. If market value is higher, you have positive equity. Bring or send us your buyout and we'll quote your trade in the same visit.

Can I trade in a leased car to a different brand?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can buy out the lease regardless of brand and put you into anything we sell across the Nucar Automalls. Some captive lenders restrict third-party buyouts in the final months — we'll check your specific lease before you sign anything.

What about excess mileage or wear-and-tear charges?

When we buy out your lease, you skip the end-of-lease inspection and the mileage/wear charges that come with it. That alone can save hundreds to thousands of dollars on a lease that's gone over the limit.

How do you determine my trade-in value?

Accepted Answer

We use live wholesale auction data, KBB and Black Book guides, and our own sales history to price your car for what it will actually sell for today. We inspect mileage, condition, options, service history, and any reconditioning needed, then make a firm offer good for 7 days or 500 miles.

What do I need to bring?

Accepted Answer

Driver's license, the vehicle, all keys and remotes, the title if you have it, and (for financed cars) your most recent loan statement. If a co-borrower is on the title or loan, they'll need to be present or sign separately.

Do I have to buy a car from you to trade mine in?
